Brevard church arson suspect arrested in Highlands

Stolen guitar helps officers catch man after Brevard fire

Douglas Edward Miller, 37, of Hammond, La., was arrested Sunday morning in Highlands in connection with a fire Friday night at Midway Bible Baptist Church in Brevard. He is charged with breaking and entering in a place of worship, larceny and burning of a place of worship. All three charges are felonies.

Three Highlands police officers and a Macon County Sheriff’s deputy arrested Miller on Highway 64 near On the Verandah restaurant, said Highlands Police Chief Bill Harrell. He added that the suspect was carrying weapons, including knives and a sword, when he was arrested.
