Highlands Hurricanes score win
The Highlands Hurricanes swim team hosted Jackson County swim team and Cherokee County swim team on Thursday, July 5, taking the meet with a score of 629.5.
The Cherokee County team came in second with a final of 301 and Jackson County came in third with a final score of 224.5.
The Hurricanes were led by Junior Olympian Chase Kenter and Junior Olymic Qualifier Masyn Smith. Both scored 31 points — the maximum a swimmer can score in a Mountain Swim League meet. Both won four individual events and teamed up on a relay with Junior Olympians Conner Hughes and Finneaus Garner for another win. Along the way, Kenter broke his 10th MSL record. There are a total of 41 male MSL records.
Hughes scored second in four events, losing only to Kenter and scoring 27 points. Garner won the 50 Free and had three MSL Allstar swims, scoring 22 points.
Justin Powell scored 26 points, including a Medley Relay win. Matti Cohen and Junior Olympic Qualifier Layla Babak each scored 25 points, each having two individual event wins.
Blake Kenter won three individual events and scored 24 points. Vivi and Annie Geren and Katya Somov each scored 23 points. Somov won two events, Geren won one. Vivi Geren swam two MSL Allstar times, Somov one. Penelope Hilson and Junior Olympic Qualifier Lauch Young each scored 22 points and each won one race. Hilson qualified for the MSL Allstars. Patrick Wood and Andre Haldin scored 21 points. Haldin won the 100 IM and each had three MSL Allstar times. Jasmin Baranco and Max Jestin each scored 20 points. Barranco had three personal records, while Jestin won the 25 Breast stroke with a MSL Allstar time.
Jordan Powell, Sadie Green and Ben Halldin all scored 19 points. All three had an MSL Allstar time. Savanah Byrd and Cassie McDowell each scored 18 points. Byrd had two MSL Allstar swims. Ian Kittrell scored 17 points, winning the 25 Freestyle and setting three personal records. Dasha Haldin scored 14 points, winning the 50 Free with an MSL Allstar time. Vivian Kennedy scored 13 points including swimming the Butterfly leg of a winning medley relay. Emma Desinoff and Elizabeth Hilson scored 12 points. Desinoff had three personal records and Hilson one.
Alex Baranco and Asa Garner each scored 11 points. Each had three personal records and Baranco a MSL Allstar swim. Vanessa Russell scored 10 points and set a personal record. Fen Hilson scored 8.5 points with two personal records. Charlie Wilkes scored seven points with three personal records and Timmy McDowell scored five points with two personal records. Josiah McKibben and William Russel each set two personal records.
The Highlands Hurricanes Swim Team is a Highlands Recreation Park Team and practices at the Highlands Recreation Park Pool. The only requirement to join the team is that a candidate must be able to swim 25 yards unassisted.
