The Village Green of Cashiers is a 13.2-acre park located in the heart of Cashiers, serving as a central community space for everyday activities, festivals and events. For more than 30 years, the park has been the site of countless community memories, from Fourth of July Fireworks to Halloween Trick-or-Treat.
At the crossroads of Highway 64 and Highway 107, visitors can discover a beautiful natural space where they can observe wildlife in the wetlands, walk along scenic weddings, and more.
“I love hearing generational stories of how this property helped bring people together and create memories,” said Executive Director Dale Gordon. “A personal thing that I love is seeing people walk their dogs every morning. People start their days with us and I think it’s such a treasure to be a part of something like that.”
Gordon said The Village Green hosts 200 days of free events each year to entertain both locals and visitors during the busy seasons. Popular events include the Groovin’ on the Green Concert offering a live concerts across genres; the Village Nature Series, which presents nature-related lectures and presentations for children and adults; and the Cashiers Plein Air Festival from July 13-18, where artists paint scenic locations across the Plateau and later sell their work at a public gallery exhibition and sale at Lewis Hall, raising funds for The Village Green.
The Village Green will also host the 48th Annual Antique Show from Aug. 7-9, featuring 27 exhibitors from across the country in a 160-foot exhibition tent.
"“I’m not sure if people really understand the scope of these vendors—we have vendors coming in from" "New York City, Dallas, New Orleans,” said Gordon. “These are the crème de la crème of antique vendors and it’s their best show of the year.”
Several capital projects "are currently in the works, highlighted by the construction of a new restroom in partnership with Jackson County, potentially beginning in December. The Village Green received two grants to support initial construction, along with upgrades to the electrical system leading to the new building.
The Board of Directors is also looking at replacing coverts, improving the commons, replacing wood and boards, and staining the boardwalk to preserve its longevity.
“Part of the infrastructure here is 30 years old, so we want to make sure that
we’re not just putting a brand new building on old pipes,” said Gordon. “We have a really involved board that has been integral in helping get out into the community and raise funds along with our grants.”
After receiving a separate grant from the Great Trail State program, The Village Green will also repave all trails within the park during the second quarter of 2027.
To support The Village Green, those interested can donate by mail or through the website, along with volunteering for events. The full event calendar is also available on the website
“We’ve already got people trickling into town and school will be winding down soon as well, so we’re here and looking forward to seeing everybody,” said Gordon"
