The Highlander will be on the move in 2020.
After more than three decades at 134 N. 5th Street, the time has come to find a location better suited to the needs of the staff.
“Our staff currently operates out of a large two-story building in downtown Highlands and the space is much bigger than needed for our team of six,” publisher Brad Spaulding said. “For efficiency, we are going to sell our 134 N. 5th Street building and relocate.”
Spaulding said that ideally The Highlander would like to find a location that provides the space needed in a single story building, making easier access for customers and readers coming in to conduct business. The sale of the current building and subsequent move to a new location will not impact the day-to-day operations of The Highlander, which will continue as normal during and after the transition.
“We will continue to publish The Highlander each Thursday, just as we always have,” Spaulding said. “There will not be any changes to our weekly deadlines or printing schedule.
The Highlander began in 1885 and evolved into several different incarnations before Jim and Martha Goode bought the business and created the newspaper’s current format in 1958. The newspaper is currently owned by Community Newspapers Inc., Athens, GA.
“Our goal has always been to publish a distinguished and profitable community-oriented newspaper devoted exclusively to the issues and events of Highlands and its people,” Spaulding said. “We plan to continue the proud tradition of bringing our readers informative and entertaining stories from our new location.”
Country Club Properties of Highlands will handle the sale of the current Highlander building.
