Music duo raises $1,300 for the Gordon Center
Music duo Katie and Ezra Herz raised over $1,300 for the Gordon Center, a nonprofit preschool in Highlands, during a Friday Night Live performance in downtown Highlands.
The duo donated 100% of their proceeds from the performance to The Gordon Center, which relies on grants and fundraising to operate.
“Our son goes there right now, and as a full-time working mom, I just know that these teachers — who I believe are angels on Earth — work so hard and love our children,” Katie Herz said. “They keep them safe. You can’t ask for more than that.”
Songs featured in the performance included “Country Roads,” “Folsom Prison Blues” and “Wagon Wheel.”
Katie emphasized the importance of investing in local children and shared personal anecdotes about the positive impact the center has had on both her and Ezra’s lives.
“We’re so lucky Highlands is such a supportive community,” she said. “It’s so important. We would like the community to invest in the children. There’s nothing more important than that.”
The duo has deep roots in Highlands, with Ezra attending the Gordon Center 30 years ago and Katie going to high school in town. Ezra said his upbringing in the area helped foster a strong sense of community and support for the arts.
“I always felt like the arts and any kind of creativity was always really supported by our parents and by a lot of people in the community,” Ezra said. “And honestly, you could even take it all the way back to the Gordon Center, because when we were kids, we always did little shows there.”
The pair spent seven years in Los Angeles before returning to Highlands, where they continue to contribute to the local music scene.
