Jackson Soil and Water Conservation District Contest Winners
The Jackson Soil and Water Conservation District held its annual poster, essay, speech and slideshow contests for students in Jackson County. The purpose of the contests is to educate students about issues that affect land and water sources, as well as about conservation. This year’s theme was “We All Live in a Watershed.” Students from Summit Charter School and Cullowhee Valley School participated in the contests. Winning students each received a trophy and a gift card: $50 for first place, $25 for second place, and honorable mention recipients received a certificate. The teacher of each winning student also received $50 in recognition of their contribution to the students’ success. The first-place winner from each contest will advance to the Area 1 Contest in Waynesville, to be held March 30, where they will compete against winners from the 15 other Soil and Water Conservation Districts in Area 1.
Third-grade poster winners were: first place, Patrick Hurley; second place, Ryland Hurley; honorable mention, Demi Rindom. All third-grade winners are from Chrissy Hughes’ class at Summit Charter.
