Judy Michaud was recently named to the Seminole 100 at Florida State.
A local entrepreneur has been honored as a member of the 2020 class of the Seminole 100 at Florida State University.
Judy Michaud, owner and broker at Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Meadows Mountain Realty in Highlands, was recently named as one of the Florida State University Seminole 100 for 2020.
The Seminole 100 is an annual list comprised of the fastest-growing businesses owned by FSU alumni. A group which includes some of the most innovative and profitable businesses in the country, according the Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship at Florida State University.
In a letter written by FSU President John Thrasher, being honored as a member of the Seminole 100 is representative of years of excellence and achievement during Michaud’s career.
“Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Meadows Mountain Realty embodies the brave and bold entrepreneurial spirit that thrives at Florida State University,” Thrasher said in a letter to notify Michaud of her inclusion. “Your success will inspire a new generation of innovators and business leaders.”
Michaud said the honor is not just big for her, but big for her company.
“This isn’t about me, it’s about the people who work with me every day,” she said.
Michaud will be recgonized at a Feb. 22, 2020 banquet on the FSU campus.
Before embarking on Real Estate career in 1986, Michaud worked as a flight attendant with National Airlines.
She started working in Highlands with Highlands Falls Real Estate in 1986. From 1991 to 2006, Michaud worked for Meadows Mountain Realty, Congressman Mark Meadows’ local real estate firm. In 2006, Michaud purchased the real estate company before becoming Berkshire Hathaway in 2015.
While the Seminole 100 group honors FSU alumni in business nationwide, Michaud said, 72 out of the 100 businesses recognized are based in Florida, and 19 of the 100 businesses are owned by women. Also, 10 are minority-owned and seven are veteran-owned. Of the Seminole 100 companies, 50 have been previously recognized.
This is Michaud’s first appearance on the Seminole 100 list.
“I applied kind of on a lark,” she said. “I didn’t expect anything to come of it.”
Prior to the Feb. 22 banquet honoring the Seminole 100, Michaud will learn of her company’s ranking among the 100 businesses honored.
“Where you rank is important, but it’s an honor to be recognized as one of the Top 100 businesses owned by Florida State alumni,” she said.
