Nantahala varsity volleyball visited Highlands last week, leaving with a crushing loss at the hands of the Lady Highlanders.
Highlands came out strong and kept that energy throughout the game, although the third period was closer than the first two. Highlands took a 3-0 win, bringing their season score to 6-15. The game brought Nantahala’s season record to 1-14.
Nantahala took the first point of the game. Highlands then scored five unanswered points before Nantahala got their second. Nantahala scored two more points, bringing the first set’s score to 6-4, Highlands. Highlands kept hacking away and the score came to 12-4, Highlands.
Both teams fought throughout the first set, although Highlands came out victorious. Nantahala put up seven more points. Highlands won 25-11.
Highlands came out with another strong start in the second, quickly putting up eight unanswered points, then getting an out-of-bouncer, bringing the score 8-1. The score rose to 11-2. The Lady Hawks would only put up eight more points that set, bringing the score to 25-10.
The third period was more evenly matched, but Highlands ultimately took that set 25-17.
