Highlands senior Claire Worley competed at the 1A West Regional women’s cross country championship on Saturday at the Tryon International Equestrian Center. Worley finished in 11th place with a time of 23:10. With this finish, Worley qualifies for the NCHSAA State Championship on Friday, Oct.31. Additionally, Highlands native Nicole Taylor also ran at the 1A West Regional and qualified for the NCHSAA Championship with a sixth-place finish and a time of 22:36. Taylor attends the North Carolina School of Science and Math in Morganton. Race time for the 1A Women’s Championship is 10:20 a.m. at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville.
In the men’s race, Summit Charter qualified three runners for the NCHSAA State Championship.Freshman Otto Dittrich led the Bears, finishing 30th with a time of 21:12.4. Sophomore Aiden Rogers finished 35th with a time of 21:40.5, and Freshman Rivers Grant finished 38th with a time of 22:06.2. Race time for the 1A Men’s Championship is scheduled for 9 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 31, at the Ivey M. Redmon Sports Complex in Kernersville.
