On Thursday, June 4, the 42 members of the Highlands Hurricanes had their first meet of the Summer 2025 season in Franklin vs FAST (Franklin Amateur Swim Team). Though they outscored Franklin approximately 17 to 6 points per swimmer, the much larger Franklin team won 883 to 710.
High scorers for the Hurricanes with three individual wins were the sisters, Morgan and Emily Mason who both scored 27 pts. Asa Garner and Jr. Olympians Conner Hughes, Dodo Zhang, Emilina Hernandez, and Bella Batista all bought home 26 pts. Ian Batista and Jr. Olympian Elizabeth Burnette got 25 pts. Agatha Jestin and Jr. Olympian Aniah McKim scored 23 pts. Jayce Powell had 22.5, Emma Denisoff 22, and Andre Jimenez 21.5. Katherine Wise, Hananiah Edwards, and Jr. Olympian Aleks Petric-Sakonjic brought home 21 pts. Lucas Zabrian scored 18.5 pts, while Hayden Bysura, Penelope McRae, and Annabelle Searles had 18 each. Jr. Olympians Jack Sumner, Chase Kenter and Justin Powell scored 17.5 pts. In perhaps the most exciting race of the evening, Jack Sumner touched out Conner Hughes in the 100 yard butterfly. Both of them went faster than Hughes team record, which Sumner now holds.
Jr. Olympians Paolo McRae and Alex Lopez had 17 and 16.5 pts each, while Anna Nicole Shchelgachova and Valerie Nadzorau brought home 16. Trinity Fernandez-Faust and Stella Kerr had 15 pts. Ivan Shchelgachov 13, Tenzin Lama 11, Nehemiah Edwards, and Sadie and Ellie BySura 10. Max Jestin scored 9, Azariah Edwards 6.5, Senna Sherrill 5, Zoe Ivey 4, and Melanie Zabrian 2. In their first-ever swim meet Charlie Baxter and Victoria Nadzorau swam well!

The Highlands Hurricanes are a Highlands Recreation Park Team that practices in the evenings at the Highlands Recreation Park Pool. The only requirement to join is that a perspective swimmer must be able to swim 25 yards (the length of the recreation park pool) unassisted.
