Changes are coming to Jackson County Recreation in Cashiers as Buchanan and Sons recently won the bidding to construct the Jackson County Splash Pad, a new project developed by Equinox. The project will see the implementation of some new features to the park, which should offer visitors a plethora of fun activities to engage with.
While the recreation center itself will remain the same, the upcoming project is set to bring some additional changes to the park, which according to Michael Hopkins, director of Jackson County Parks and Recreation Department, will include an abundance of new features for locals to enjoy.
With Buchanan and Sons being the lone bidder, they have one year to complete the project. However, there is no expected start date yet for construction. However, Hopkins said that it can began as soon as Jan. 2025 following the bidding.
For the project itself, Hopkins said it will feature the inclusion of some new facilities, such as a splash pad, two brand-new pickleball courts, a tennis court and an outdoor basketball court, which will provide diverse recreational activities for both residents and visitors alike.
“These amenities encourage physical activity, promote health and wellness, and offer fun ways to engage in outdoor recreation,” he said.
In addition to the brand-new features heading to the park, Hopkins added that the project will also be implementing a new playground area alongside a picnic shelter, which will provide visitors a more family friendly environment.
“The new playground and picnic will create a welcoming space for families to gather, play and enjoy time outdoors. It encourages family bonding and community connections,” he said.
As for the economic and social impact of the park’s revisions, Hopkins added that the project could draw visitors from surrounding areas, which in turn, will help boost local businesses like restaurants and shops.
“The enhanced park might also serve as a venue for local events, increasing community engagement,” he said.
Alongside the fun outdoor activities that visitors will be able to partake in, the park will also see improved accessibility with the inclusion of new sidewalks, which he said will improve connectivity within the community as well as enhancing safety for residents and park guests.
“By improving infrastructure and offering updates amenities, the project enhances the overall quality of life in the community. It creates spaces that foster social interaction, reduce stress and promote a healthier lifestyle,” he said.
