Hudson Library to host adult mental health series

The Hudson Library has partnered with Vaya Health Foundation to bring an Adult Mental Health series to the library.

Librarian Carlyn Morenus said one of the main priorities the library system promotes is mental health.

“Mental health is one of our long range priorities here at Fontana Libraries,” Morenus said. “We are always on the lookout for ways that we can promote it.”

With the COVID-19 pandemic, Morenus said she thinks more people are dealing with mental health issues.

“I think with everything we have gone through with the COVID-19 virus, it has made life more difficult in unforeseen ways,” Morenus said. “One of the populations that I think is of

more concern for is the older adults. They are more isolated than people in the work force and that can be detrimental to one’s health.”

Vaya Health reached out to Fontana Libraries with the focus of providing mental health information to older adults.

The series will go on from Sept. to Dec., once a month.

The first series happened Sept. 14, and covered anxiety. The second series will be Oct. 12 and will cover a rainbow of mental health. Nov. 9, will cover dementia and psychosis behavior and Dec. 14, will cover depression: from surviving to thriving.

“I think people come to the library for many reasons,” Morenus said. “Some come to get out of the house for peace and quiet, some people come to work and some people come just to have some interaction with the world. For a lot of people the library is a community they feel safe in. I hope that people come and find the information that will help them find more joy in their lives.”
