Micas unveils custom-built veterans memorial

On Monday, local residents and owners of Micas Restaurant and Pub, Mike Quillen, Bob Geyer, and David Verinder, celebrated their first year at the helm by pausing for a moment of prayer, silent reflection, and readings of special poems dedicating an onsite veteran’s memorial.

Several local residents and guests were in attendance on the Micas grounds.  The memorial celebration was also attended by distinguished local members of the United States Armed Forces including WW2 Navy veterans Jim Ryan (age 95), of Sapphire Valley, and Russ Yankow (age 99), of Cashiers.

The veterans and their families and friends were treated to a Micas lunch as part of the festivities. It was a special day and event to express gratitude for the sacrifices and dedication of service members from all generations and branches. Veterans Day was initially known as Armistice Day, commemorating the end of World War I in 1918. In 1954, the holiday was renamed Veterans Day by President Eisenhower to honor all military veterans.
