Rolling up their sleeves

Volunteers help get Highlands School ready for students return

Seeing a need, volunteers with the Highlands School Parent Teacher Organization took it upon themselves to get the job done on Saturday.

Approximately 30 volunteers including parents, grandparents, teachers, students, alumni, and community members joined together for a day of giving back to Highlands School.

Between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. all lawns were mowed, the entire property was weedeated, flower beds were weeded, interior paint was touched up, trees were removed, bushes were trimmed, 300 bags of mulch were spread, and much more.

Several businesses also assisted in the Highlands School PTO’s efforts:

– DP Painting (Dennis Perkins and crew) pressure washed the playground and other areas around the school. They worked until dark Friday evening to get the playground cleaned in time for volunteers to spread mulch the next day.

– Bryson’s Food Store provided Highlands School PTO biscuits for the volunteer breakfast.

– Highlands Lawn & Garden and Stoneyard 28 donated the majority of the 300 bags of mulch.

– Bryson Grading and Paving provided heavy equipment and a dump trailer to assist in the efforts on Saturday.
