Runners needed for Gobble on the Green 5K

The Village Green’s annual Gobble on The Green 5K race is kicking off again this Thanksgiving and registration is officially open for those that wish to participate in the festive holiday event, according to Shelby Ward, community event and volunteer coordinator for The Village Green.

“Many participants have made the Gobble on The Green 5K a part of their Thanksgiving Day traditions with their families and friends. It is an event that not only celebrates Thanksgiving, but allows our community to come together to share in the joy of the holiday season,” she said.

Ward said medals and pies will be given to the top two best overall male and female racers. However, medals will also be rewarded to the best male and female racer of seven different age groups, ensuring an inclusive space for the community to enjoy the spirit of the event.

Alongside the annual 5K run, there will also be the Junior Warrior Course, a scavenger hunt-type obstacle course designed for children who are not participating in the race, which Ward said will be held at The Village Green’s playground.

“Participants will receive different obstacles based on their age, and all Junior Warriors will receive a prize for participating. All children are welcome, there is no cost, and no registration associated with the Junior Warrior Course,” she said.

Ward added that four additional door prizes from local businesses will be given to those that attend via random number drawings. Participants must be present in order to receive their prizes.

“Awards will be announced beginning at 9:30 a.m. on the outdoor stage on The Village Green’s Commons Lawn,” she said.

Those that wish to participate in the race can sign up by visiting RunSignUp.com/GobbleOnTheGreen, with a $35 registration fee per runner. Those that sign up no later than Nov. 10 will receive a commemorative Gobble on The Green t-shirt. Registration funds from the event will go directly towards the costs associated with Gobble on The Green.

“It always brings joy seeing the community come together, families and friends spending quality time together, and everyone sharing the excitement of the race,” Ward said. “It’s heartwarming to witness families and friends sharing in the experience, cheering each other on, and creating lasting memories.”
