Chief Tim Wallis submitted his resignation from the Sky Valley Police Department effective Friday, Feb. 7.

A resignation letter dated Feb. 3 on Sky Valley Office of the Chief of Police letterhead and signed by Wallis is addressed to Mayor Hollie Steil and reads, “Please accept this letter of resignation from the Sky Valley Police Department effective February 7, 2025. While I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here in Sky Valley, and have been welcomed by so many community members, economically this decision is what is best for my family and our future. I will forever be grateful for this opportunity and believe that Sky Valley Police Department has the potential to go from a great to world-class police Department.”

Wallis was introduced as the new police chief during a special called council meeting  in November 2024. He started his role as chief the first week of December.

Wallis followed Chief Vaughn Estes, who left July 31, 2024, after seven-and-a-half years of service to the city. David Edwards served as interim police chief until Wallis was hired.

Sky Valley officials announced the hiring of Wallis in November and said he would bring a wealth of experience and expertise to the role.

Steil said the hiring process was extensive. She said a search committee was formed that was made up of council members as well as citizens.

Steil said the job was advertised in several places and 15 people applied for the position. She said the committee narrowed down the candidates to four finalists to be interviewed and the decision to hire Wallis was unanimous, according to previous reporting by The Clayton Tribune.

Sky Valley city officials sent out an email to the community Tuesday to notify them of the resignation of Wallis. The email also included a link to the resignation letter.

“Police Chief Tim Wallis has officially submitted his resignation to the City of Sky Valley. While we are sad to see him go, we sincerely thank him for his service and wish him the very best in his future endeavors,” according to the email.
