The Town of Highlands has once again been nominated by USA Today in its Readers’ Choice 2021 for Best Small Town for Shopping.
The criteria for the award are small towns with populations of less than 25,000.
“We have great businesses that are individually curated for a unique shopping experience,” Highlands Chamber of Commerce executive director Kaye McHan said. “It’s not a box store atmosphere. The business owners are also our neighbors and provide a welcoming atmosphere for residents and visitors.”
People can vote once per day until polls close on Monday, Oct. 25, at noon.
McHan said people should vote for Highlands because the town is the best.
“I love that you can shop in Highlands, and you don’t see what everyone else finds online or in the Malls,” McHan said. “You can even talk to the shop owners about their selected merchandise and receive great customer service.”
For McHan, keeping residents informed and promoting during the off season to visitors are the most important aspects of promoting the Town of Highlands.
“For residents, we keep them informed about what is happening in Town and encourage them to participate and enjoy all that is occurring in the community,” McHan said. “For visitors, we promote Highlands during the off season to a very specific demographic that is targeted for Highlands.”
The winning small towns will be announced on 10Best.com on Friday, Nov. 5.
The other towns nominated for the award are Andes, N.Y.; Berlin, MA; Boerne, Texas; Camden, Maine; Canton, Miss.; Cape May, N.J.; Carmel-By-The-Sea, Cali.; Chagrin Falls, Ohio; Dahlonega, Ga.; Durango, Colo.; Fairhope, Ala.; Friday Harbor, Wa.; Lahaina, Ha.; Montpelier, Vt.; Park City, Utah, Sedona, Az.; St. Michaels, Md.; Whitefish, Mont., and Woodstock, Vt.
