Second annual Snow Fest set for two-day showcase

Winter has set in across the Highlands-Cashiers Plateau.

Not that anyone who has ventured outside in the frigid morning air needs any reminder.

But with the onset of winter comes one of Highlands newest events, which is sure to bring back warm memories of snow days spent outdoors.

Snow Fest, sponsored by the Highlands Chamber of Commerce and Visit Highlands NC, is back for its second annual showcase and the weekend promises to bring all the fun activities associated with winter weather – Even if Mother Nature doesn’t cooperate.

“We will be making snow (to cover Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park) using the same equipment that Highlands Outpost uses,” Highlands Chamber of Commerce Communications Manager Kara Addy said. “The event is free and open to the public. The Highlands School Booster Club will be accepting donations at the s’more making station, which are much appreciated.”

Snow Fest will feature a snowball toss, a snow tube merry-go-round, a snow slide and ice skating all within the snow-covered confines of Founders Park. There will be hot chocolate provided by Highlands Cashiers Hospital and the Eckerd Living Center and hot apple cider provided by Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Meadows Mountain Realty.

New for 2023, Snow Fest will also feature “Snow-ga” sessions with instructor Rachel Kinback from Yoga Highlands. A local DJ will provide the soundtrack to the Snow Fest events.

Snow Fest will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday at Founders Park on 4th Street.
