Hazel Beale Potts passed away on Sept. 28 at the Fidelia EcKerd Nursing home in Highlands. She was better known as “Broadie.” 

Hazel was born Aug. 18, 1929, to Harvath and Callie Moss Beale. She grew up on Buttermilk Level and Big Muddy and attended Highlands School. As a teenager she worked at the Potts House for Helen and Charlie Potts, there she met and married their son Edward in 1948. The couple opened Highlands Cleaners and Laundry, purchased a home on 5th street and had five children. 

She was a member of Highlands First Baptist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star. Remembered as a hard working gal who loved all her family with a passion, Hazel Loved to travel to places like Mexico, Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, Sturgis and Hog Heaven. She was an avid coon hunter, fisherwoman, bingo player and loved all her family reunions. 

She is survived by her children, Robin O’Berry and James, Red Potts and Melody, Herb Potts. Grandchildren: Eddie O’Berry, Shannon Reese and Mandy, Callie O’Berry and Mel, Jason Potts and Stephanie, Jessica Carter and Terry, Alexandra Achraf and Dali and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Edward Potts, children Charles Coleman and Edward Potts Jr. (Porter) and siblings Buck, Porter and John Beale, Sweeter Cleaveland and Reba Dalton. 

A small family service will be on Sunset Rock overlooking Highlands, the place she loved to call “home.” The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Cashiers Glenville Rescue Squad and the Fidelia Eckerd Nursing Home for taking such good care of our mom “Mamaw Broadie.” Memorial donations may be sent to Cashiers Glenville Rescue Squad, P.O.
