Nancy Caroline Pennington Temple
Nancy Caroline Pennington Temple, age 86, of Highlands, passed away peacefully at home, on Wednesday, June 17, 2020.
Nancy was the daughter of Lydia Moore Pennington, the wife of William Norman Temple, Sr., the mother of three, the mother-in-law of two, the Grandmommy of six, the Grandmommy-in-law of three, and the great-Grandmommy of two. Nancy and Bill had recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Their love and devotion to each other was undeniable.
Nancy grew up in Oxford, MS and attended the University of Mississippi, where she swam for the Ole Miss Women’s Swim Team. While living in Tampa, FL, she was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, and part-owner and operator of an interior decorating company.
Nancy enjoyed playing duplicate bridge with the Highlands Duplicate Bridge Club and at Wildcat Cliffs Country Club and she was a member of the American Contract Bridge League. She was a member of Wildcat Cliffs Country Club in Highlands, where she received the Millie Singletary Award and was a member of the Ladies Golf Association. Nancy loved everything about Wildcat from the friendly staff that took good care of her to the lifelong friendships that she cherished so much.
She and Bill were also an active member of The Church of the Incarnation in Highlands.
Family and friends were Nancy’s delight. She loved to cook and entertain, and frequently had dinner parties at her home. She often had a houseful of family visiting her, which gave her great joy. She will long be remembered by her friends and family for her thoughtfulness, caring, and love for others. Nancy’s favorite song was “Here’s to Life” by Shirley Horn, which inspired her positive outlook towards life.
Nancy is survived by her husband, William Temple, Sr. (Bill); her children, Carol Temple Nigro, William (Bill) Temple, Jr. (Amy), Alan Temple (Susan); her grandchildren, Lydia Nigro, Matthew Nigro, Tatum Temple (Drew), Jodi Randazzo (Christopher), Madison Temple (Anderson), and Jonathan Temple; and her great-grandchildren, Aria and Luca Randazzo. She also leaves behind many caring friends.
There will be a memorial service at The Church of the Incarnation at a date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, Nancy wished for donations to be made to The Church of the Incarnation, P.O. Box 729, Highlands, NC 28741.
