Thomas Wayne Johnson

Thomas Wayne Johnson, of Cullowhee, passed away on Wednesday, July 22.

He was born on June 2, 1941, in Braintree, Massachusetts to the late Mary Aherne and Robert Johnson.

Mr. Johnson served as a Fire Direction Specialist with the 116th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Battalion in the United States Army Reserve. Before his retirement, he was the owner of Tropic Pools of Polk County. He was also awarded the Eagle Scout rank from the Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Johnson was an avid car enthusiast and was heavily involved in drag and circle track racing prior to his retirement.

Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife Betty Jean Johnson, of Cullowhee; son Stephen Johnson who resides in Lakeland, Florida, with his wife Louise and son Thomas; daughter Cindy Lucas who resides in Orlando with her husband Kerry and their two children Konner and Katie, and his brother Peter Johnson who resides in Houston, Texas.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by four brothers – Dennis Johnson, Robert Johnson, Richard Johnson, and Stephen Johnson.

A Celebration of Life will be held in June 2021 in Cullowhee. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Shriners Hospitals.
