A full slate of must-see events

Tickets to major events are always hard to come by.

If you would like to see a Super Bowl, a World Series game seven, or the latest iteration of the Rolling Stones farewell tour, finding tickets is tough and paying for them even tougher.

Over the past several years, tickets to Highlands biggest events have also become rare commodities. The Highlands Food and Wine Festival in November sells out every year, and the 2022 event sold out within minutes of tickets going live online. The Bear Shadow Music Festival is another example of an annual event selling out fast.

But 2022 has made events with a lesser marquee as in-demand as Highlands’ large festivals. If you were hoping to snag a duck in the annual Rotary Club of Highlands Duck Derby on July 4, you had to get to the sale tent early – the ducks sold out by 1 p.m. If you had a taste for seafood, tickets to the annual Friends of Founders Park Shrimp Boil may have been on your must-have list. That event also sold out on July 9.

If you were lucky enough to get a seat for any of the recent showings of Jersey Boys at the Mountain Theater Company, consider yourself among the fortunate. A sold-out three-week run marked the opening of the MTC season, and if the first production is any indication, the upcoming run of “Sentimental Journey: A WWII Music Review” will also be a must-see show. Sentimental Journey, which is a tribute to the USO-style performances of the 1940’s, will go curtains up on Aug. 12 and run through Sept. 4.

The Highlands-Cashiers Chamber Music Festival has been bringing in large crowds across the plateau over the past month and upcoming events at the Highlands Performing Arts Center are hot tickets. Speaking of the PAC, “Tales of a Weary Waiter” will grace the stage on Aug. 13 and the Highlands Cashiers Players production of “Night Watch” will follow Aug. 25-28 and Sept. 1-3. Tickets for all shows are on sale currently and going fast.

Highlands is never short on community events, and the arts scene continues to boom, so make reservations and buy tickets now to ensure you don’t miss out.
