First snow in Highlands

The first snow in Highlands this year is something that I am going to remember for the rest of my life. Coming from South Alabama, we never get snow, and if we do, you better stock up on bread. Roads are shut down and schools and businesses take the whole week off.

Letter to the Editor: Facts Matter

Well known Highland’s realtor Pat Allen recently wrote a column in the Highlands Newspaper on the issue of short-term rentals.  Unfortunately, on several important facts, Ms. Allen is just wrong. STR’s are a crucial issue that threaten the character of Highlands and future livability of our town.

I read the recent column where the writer claimed that the residents of Dog Mountain Subdivision sought annexation for the purpose of stopping STRs in their neighborhood. That annexation occurred back in 2011/12.

I loved the Highlands Christmas Parade this year.  I am always honored as mayor to lead the parade just behind the color guard.  Sallie, our grandchildren and Lucy, our dog, had a great time walking in the parade and passing out candy.

Halloween, how we have all missed ye. After taking 2020 off due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Halloween festivities are back for 2021 and there’s a good chance the weekend of Oct. 30-31 will be bigger than ever.

Sometimes I think something has been fixed only to realize more work is needed. That has been the case with the intersection on NC 28 at Satulah and South Street. For years folks complained the intersection was too complicated, confusing and dangerous.
