With the holiday season in full swing, Christmas tree farms are going to start opening this week around Cashiers in time for the weekend after Thanksgiving.
Bear Valley Farm in Glenville, located near Hwy. 107 at 231 Bee Tree Road, will have its opening day on Saturday and will be open every day from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. while there are still trees available for purchase.
This year, the farm will stay open until staff has sold approximately 1,800 trees. All wholesale tree sales have been halted for the next few years due to the nationwide tree shortage.
Grandy Mountain Christmas Tree Farm, located on Dry Land Lane in Glenville, will be open starting this Friday and Saturday and the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. Hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and while there are trees ranging from five-12-feet-tall available, the 11-12-feet-tall trees are limited. Wreaths will also be available in assorted sizes.
Moss Tree Farm is operated by Todd, Larry, and Brenda Moss and has been open since 1976.
The business will be open to the public on Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their secondary field for trees eight feet tall and above. The field is located at 1937 Yellow Mountain Road in Cullowhee.
On the weekend after Thanksgiving, Moss Tree Farm’s main field at 1822 Norton Road in Cashiers will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. from Nov. 25-27.
Fraser firs will be limited this year no matter where you go, and Moss Tree Farm plans to close once they sell out.
Residents can pre-order their trees and Christmas wreaths online, and the trees are pick-up only. There is no pre-pay service to reserve a tree from Moss Tree Farm’s Choose N’ Cut operation. Pick-up times are only available Monday through Thursday or after Thanksgiving weekend.
Another Christmas tree farm is making a comeback this year after being closed last season due to tree shortages.
Tom Sawyer’s Christmas Tree Farm and Elf Village, located in Glenville, will be open limited days and are requiring reservations for its choose and cut operation this year. The farm is located at 240 Chimney Pond Road.
The cost to make a reservation is $50, but it will go directly toward the cost of the tree. Tickets can be purchased for reservations and need to be brought into the farm. Once you arrive, staff members at the farm will help you choose your tree and then deduct $50 from the price.
Choose N’ Cut trees at Tom Sawyer’s will be available by reservation only on Nov. 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, and Dec. 3 and 4, and the farm’s hours are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. While Santa Claus will be present to visit with families, the more immersive Elf Village will be closed this year.
Pressley Tree Farm, located at 770 Shirley Pressley Road in Glenville, will be open the weekend after Thanksgiving, Nov. 25-27.
