Marissa Monteith, MSHCA-BSRC-RRT, Highlands-Cashiers Hospital Respiratory Therapy Supervisor, was recently named Practitioner of the year by the North Carolina Society of Respiratory Care.
This award, given yearly in September, is presented to exceptional respiratory therapists who advocate, teach, and guide both patients and staff about cardiopulmonary disease. Award recipients must also possess special skills and exhibit extra commitment to their patients, and have the ability to motivate, inspire, and lead others. Individuals are nominated for this prestigious award by hospital staff and patients.
Monteith was also recognized by Patrick Taylor, Mayor of the Town of Highlands, with a Town Proclamation celebrating Marissa’s achievement.

Monteith started her Respiratory career in 2010 at Botsford General Hospital in Farmington Hills, MI, and began her educator career as a Clinical Coordinator for Southwestern Community College in Sylva where she was recognized with the Gail Gane Educator of the Year Award in 2019.
Monteith received her Master of Science degree in Healthcare Administration from Independence University in Salt Lake City, UT, a Bachelor of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy from Independence University in Salt Lake City, UT, and an Associates of Science degree in Respiratory Therapy Independence University, Salt Lake City, UT.
