Highlands, Cashiers Christmas Parades to be on same day

In the spirit of community, the Cashiers Christmas Parade and the Highlands Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade will be held on the same day.

Highlands’ parade will begin at 10:30 a.m., and Cashiers parade will start at 3 p.m., both on Saturday, Dec. 4.

Two communities and two chambers working together to provide the Plateau a wonderful day of Christmas cheer.

The Highlands parade started in 1986 and has 50-60 entries. The parade will begin earlier this year with a 10:30 a.m., start time. Camels, donkeys, floats, bands and dancing ladies are all anticipated again this year and of course the man in the red suit.

“Showcasing our community spirit on the same day through parades is a great way to engage everyone on the plateau in the conspiracy of Christmas,” Highlands Chamber of Commerce executive director Kaye McHan said. “Christmas is that time of year that brings us together to celebrate and remember what is really important, not the things we can see and touch but what we feel at Christmas. We hope everyone will make a day of it and join the fun.”

The Cashiers parade traditionally features between 50-60 entries annually, where horse-drawn carriages, student performances, fire engines, antique cars, dogs, holiday characters, llamas and more all make an appearance. The one-mile parade route starts on Highway 107 South and heads North to the Cashiers Crossroads where participants are announced as the event is livestreamed at Live.TheHighSouth.com.

The Village Green will provide a post parade celebration – Details coming soon.

“The parade is a true showcase of the community’s spirit during this beautiful time of year,” said, Thomas Taulbee, Cashiers Parade Director.  Taulbee noted that the Parade would not be possible without the support of the County and local service personnel who commit to the safety of the event. “We are grateful for the Cashiers Glenville Volunteer Fire Department, Glenville-Cashiers Rescue Squad and Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, who dedicate time and resources to support the parade each year,” he said. “The parade would not be possible without their support.” The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office dedicates personnel and leads the parade through town and the Fire Department and Rescue Squad participate and provide safety services during the event including traffic control at the Crossroads and along the parade route.
