Playhouse unveils 2020 summer lineup

Highlands Playhouse is celebrating its 20th season in 2020 and wants to share the celebration with everyone in Highlands.

Managing Director Lance Matzske released the Playhouse season schedule this week, saying this could be their best season yet.

“I have a feeling that our 2020 season will surprise even our veteran theater-goers who are already accustomed to the level of our high quality performances,” Matzske said. “This year’s lineup offers something for everyone.”

The Playhouse movie lineup resumes Friday with “The Farewell,” with a lineup of theatrical performances slated for the spring and summer.

The 20th Playhouse summer season kicks off June 25 with the ABBA hit “Mamma Mia,” and runs through July 11. Matzske said he’s pleased with this year’s selection of productions. On July 16, “The Will Rogers Follies” hits the stage and runs through Aug. 1.

“‘Mamma Mia’ is sure to start things off with a bang,” he said. “The ‘Will Roger’s Follies’ is a venerable classic full of wit.”

The summer season wraps up with “Bright Star” on Aug. 6 and running through Aug. 22.

“‘Bright Star,’ though bred in Appalachia, is a brilliant piece of contemporary theater,” Matzske said. “We have some truly fantastic shows coming together, and I couldn’t be more excited.”

The Highlands Playhouse will continue its run of movie selections through the year, along with other cultural and culinary events.

Matzke also said life at the Playhouse was slowly returning to normal since last year’s fire severely damaged the theater’s storage facility.

“Restoration is in full swing and I am grateful every day for the support and generous donations we received from the community during our time of need,” he said. Check our Facebook in the coming week to see how we are progressing.”
