RGNS gala raises $100,000 for school

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School hosted its inaugural Green & Gold Gala on Friday, August 4, raising more than $100,000 for the school.

The Gala featured an extensive silent auction with more than 50 items donated by parents and local businesses in Rabun County and the surrounding areas. Guests also enjoyed a seated dinner in the Woodruff Dining Hall, bingo with prizes from local businesses, and a big fireworks finale sponsored by realtors Meghann Brackett and Andrea Sorgeloos of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices.

“The inaugural Green and Gold Gala was a resounding success on all levels,” said Head of School Jeff Miles. “Our parents, led by co-chairs Sarah Barge and Bethany Weisser, organized an exciting evening that packed in more than 120 attendees, which is much larger than we anticipated for our first year.”

Proceeds from the event will support Rabun Gap students and teachers in all school divisions.

“While we are still calculating the exact amount, we know we exceeded expectations by raising over $100,000 in just four hours,” said Miles. “We look forward to this being an annual tradition open for all community members.”

The gala’s success would not be possible without the generous support of table sponsors and the volunteer committee.

Gold table sponsors were Equity Health and The Rogers Family. Green table sponsors were Habersham Metal Products Company, TestMax Inc., The Murphy Family, and J.W. Underwood Construction. The Library Kitchen and Bar in Cashiers was the gala’s gold music sponsor.

Members of the gala committee, led by co-chairs Sarah Barge and Bethany Weisser, included Rabun Gap parents Liz Edelheit, Sheila Kennett-Johnson, Andrea Sorgeloos, Charlotte Muir, Jennifer Stapleton, and Ava Zavala.

Many Highlands-area businesses supported the event through silent auction and bingo prize donations, including Africa Awaits, Cullasaja Country Club, Highlands Country Club, Highlands Aerial Park, Old Edwards Club, Old Edwards Inn, The Library Kitchen and Bar, The Secret Garden, The Vineyard at High Holly, and Wolfgang’s Restaurant and Bistro.
