Whether you enjoy the fast-paced pickin’ of a banjo, 1980’s pop hits, or the classic rock tunes of the 1960’s, Highlands will be the place to be this summer when the areas two outdoor concerts series get underway for 2024.
The Highlands Chamber of Commerce announced the lineup for Friday Night Live and Saturdays on Pine concerts this week and there promises to be something for everybody.
“Highlands thrives on community gatherings, live music, and the beauty of nature,” Highlands Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Kaye McHan said. “Grab your lawn chair or blanket, pack a picnic basket, and join us.”
Friday Night Live will kick off on May 17 with a performance by local favorites Silly Ridge playing their bland of bluegrass and Americana.
The weekly Friday Night Live concerts are held each week at Town Square on Main Street. Music begins at 6 p.m. and the shows are free to the public. The concerts are part of the Blue Ridge Music Trails of North Carolina, an initiative of the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area Partnership and the N.C. Arts Council that works to sustain the music traditions of the region.
The Saturdays on Pine series features a variety of popular, regional bands and musicians at Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park. Each concert is free to the public and music starts at 6 p.m.
Taking the stage to get the 2024 season underway will be Continental Divide on Saturday, May 18. Known for their unique mix of beach music, jazz, and early rock and roll staples, Continental Divide has been getting crowds dancing in the aisles for more than four decades.
The first weekend of concerts will coincide with the annual “High Style” event in Highlands’ business district. Formerly known as the “Meander in May,” High Style is being reimagined for 2024 and will feature a full weekend of events.
“We are excited to bring back the ‘High Style’ event for 2024,” McHan said. “Highlands has an incredibly diverse business community, and we want to showcase all that we have to offer for our residents and visitors.”
