The Highlands Cashiers Players will present The Savannah Sipping Society, a comedy by Jones Hope Wooten, Nov. 1 - 3 and Nov. 7 -10 at the Martin Lipscomb Theater inside the Highlands Performing Arts Center.
In this laugh-a-minute comedy, directed by Ron Leslie, four unique Southern women, all needing to escape the sameness of their day-to-day routines, are drawn together by fate — and an impromptu happy hour — and decide it’s high time to reclaim the enthusiasm for life they’ve lost through the years.
“It is the perfect evening of entertainment for people attending the Highlands Food and Wine Festival,” said Leslie.
The cast includes HCP newcomer Emily Wright, who audiences may remember from her role in last spring’s PAC Educational Theatre production of Oliver!
Wright plays Dot, a widow who is trying to move on alone in the place she and her husband chose for their retirement. Diandra Mundy returns to HCP after appearing in Squabbles and Always a Bridesmaid earlier this season. She plays Randa, a long-time Savannah resident reeling from the loss of her job, who opens her beautiful verandah as a meeting place for her new friends. B
Berney Kirkland is making her second appearance on the HCP stage this season. This past March, she played one of the lead roles in Squabbles. Kirkland plays Marlafaye, a former nurse from Texas who moves to Savannah after a nasty divorce and takes a job as a liquor distributor. Cathy Myers rounds out the cast as Jinx, a wannabe life coach who sees her three new friends as an opportunity to practice her craft. While Myers is a newcomer to the stage, she is no stranger backstage at Highlands Cashiers Players, where she has been the stage manager for the last several shows. Cathy is doing double duty, also serving as production manager for The Savannah Sipping Society.
Jayne Pleasants is the assistant director, and Jim Spencer is the stage manager. Performances are nightly at 7:30 p.m. except for the Sunday shows, which are 2 p.m. matinees. Tickets are available at highlandscashiersplayers.com, or by calling 828-526-9047. The Highlands Performing Arts Center is located at 507 Chestnut Street, Highlands.
