Rabun Gap celebrates accomplished class of 2023

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School hosted its 120th Commencement ceremony on Sunday, May 21, celebrating one of the School’s largest and most accomplished graduating classes.

Class of 2023 crosses the stage

Highlands’ class of 2023 graduates entered quietly on Saturday morning, but they left with a roar. For the graduates who were conferred their diplomas on a stage set up in the new gym, the commencement ceremony marked the closing of one chapter in life and the beginning of a new adventure.

A report of suspicious activity by members of the community led Highlands Police Officers to make a narcotics-related arrest on Thursday, May 25. Following the tip, Highlands Police officers were able to secure a search warrant to enter a local residence.

Highlands Food and Wine unveils entertainment lineup

The 7th annual Highlands Food and Wine Festival taking place Nov. 9-12, will feature headliners End of the Line, Grace Potter and The War & Treaty, plus famed keyboardist Chuck Leavell returning to Highlands for an intimate performance. Tickets will go on sale Thursday, June 15 at 12 p.m.

Gala Review brings talent together at the PAC

Since its grand opening in 2022, the new theater at the Highlands Performing Arts Center has been receiving rave reviews. In order to keep the facility in tip top shape, the PAC staff and board will be hosting the first-ever “Gala Review” at 6 p.m. on Saturday, June 3.

Motoring Fest rolls into town June 8-11

Every year the Highlands Motoring Festival rolls into Highlands during the second week in June. For 2023, the four day festival runs from June 8 through June 11. During the week, some of the finest classic cars in existence will be seen in and around Highlands.

Town commissioners receive final 2023-24 budget draft

After three months of workshops, special meetings, and a retreat, the Town of Highlands unveiled its proposed 2023-24 operating budget on Thursday night. The total budget is $32,011,478.

Chamber kicks off busy week with "Spring Fling" event

The Highlands Chamber of Commerce kicked off a big week of events on Tuesday evening with its annual Spring Fling, which serves as an unofficial opening of the always popular “Business After Hours” series.

May 6-12 is National Nurses Week, and there is a common familial theme running through the storylines of some of the nurses working at the Highlands-Cashiers Hospital.
