Outhouse sledding for a cause

The Great Outhouse Races at Sapphire Ski Valley is making its return after being canceled in 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The event, which has been a staple point of the community for 15 years, is set for this Saturday, Feb.

CHHS gives new hope for 42 dogs in largest rescue in years

On Feb. 11, the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society conducted their largest rescue mission since 2018. The CHHS Animal Rescue team traveled to Pickens, South Carolina to provide assistance in a large-scale puppy mill of 166 dogs.

What Black History Month means

For clubhouse manager at Old Edwards Club and GlenCove Club, Jonathan Austin, Black History Month is all about perseverance. Hailing from a small town called Pittsboro, Austin worked his way up from the bottom of the Old Edwards chain. Before OEI, Austin joined the Marine Corp.

Public Works Committee discusses sidewalk project

A new option for the paving project on Third Street will be brought to the Town Board of Commissioners. In the new option, the town will remove the elevated sidewalks, construct drainage for downspouts, construct a support wall for a rear elevated walkway and build a loading ramp.

On Friday, Feb. 4, Highlands School freshman Finneaus Garner traveled to Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center for the 2022 West NCHSAA Regional Swim Meet. Swimming in the maximum number of individual events allowed (two) Garner did well.
