A public hearing that could influence what the Highlands Town Board of Commissioners does with the current short-rental issue is set for tonight at 5 p.m.

CHHS gives new hope for 42 dogs in largest rescue in years

On Feb. 11, the Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society conducted their largest rescue mission since 2018. The CHHS Animal Rescue team traveled to Pickens, South Carolina to provide assistance in a large-scale puppy mill of 166 dogs.

Public Works Committee discusses sidewalk project

A new option for the paving project on Third Street will be brought to the Town Board of Commissioners. In the new option, the town will remove the elevated sidewalks, construct drainage for downspouts, construct a support wall for a rear elevated walkway and build a loading ramp.

Nature Center hires second full-time education specialist

For the first time ever, the Highlands Biological Foundation will have two full-time education specialists running public programs and camps at the Highlands Nature Center.
