Laura Cabe, School Nutrition Director for Jackson County Schools, said an extra $500,000 approved by the Jackson County Commission going toward the CEP program this year will provide more free breakfasts and lunches for kids in Jackson County.

The Town of Highlands Planning Board voted unanimously at their meeting Monday, July 22 to turn down a proposed new rule to amortize short-term vacation rentals in some zoning districts in town. The proposed new rule was approved by the Town Board at their last meeting.

A new, much bigger community playground for the Town of Highlands will be all-inclusive for those with disabilities – once the commissioners secure funding for it, hopefully by later this year. The project will cost $1.
Volunteers with the Rotary Club of Highlands grilled 1,250 hot dogs at the town baseball field on July 4. Thanks to record crowds, the free franks were gone in under an hour.

While the fireworks were still hours away, people flooded to The Village Green of Cashiers on Wednesday, July 3 for the chance to enjoy live music, food and community before the ceremonial explosions in the sky began at night. The sun beat down all afternoon and into the evening.
