Corbin to seek re-election in Senate

Sen. Kevin Corbin announced Monday morning he would not make a bid for U.S. Congress and will file to run for re-election serving State Senate District 50. In the recent redistricting of the state, Macon County became part of a new 14th U.S. Congressional district.

Christmas events around the Plateau

Christmas is just around the corner and there are several events coming up to get residents in the holiday spirit. The events get kicked off with the Highlands Tree Lighting on Saturday, Nov. 27., in Kesley Hutchinson Founders Park.

Town meets with planning board to review proposed amendments to UDO on short-term rentals

On Monday, Nov. 22, the Highlands Town Board of Commissioners held a workshop with the planning board to go over a proposed draft of changes to the unified development ordinance.

Sideline coming to the PAC Nov. 26

Sideline, the pedigreed six-piece powerhouse band, is set to play at the Highlands Performing Arts Center the day after Thanksgiving with the hopes of giving the Plateau something to remember. The group has been labeled as a band whose style has set the pace in bluegrass for over two decades.

2021 Highlands Motoring Festival was most successful ever

The sound of revving engines doesn’t always bring to mind three prominent local non-profit organizations, but thanks to the Highlands Motoring Festival those organizations benefit each year from the rumble of sports cars rolling through town.

“I would do it all over again”

2021 began for Cashiers-Highlands Humane Society’s executive director David Stroud with nine senior pets at his house. Though it was a heartbreaking year, Stroud said that he would do it all over again to have the days each senior brought into his family.
