With the COVID-19 pandemic causing people to stay hunkered down in their homes, Highlands local Craig Eister used that anxiety to write a new play, The Great Pandemic. Eister began the project one year ago, during the pandemic.

Highlands restaurants recieve $1.3 million in RRF money

Five restaurants in Highlands jumped on the train of receiving money from the Restaurant Revitalization Fund. Only about 40 percent of the North Carolina restaurants that applied for money from a federal program designed to help them actually received any before it ran out of money.

Mayoral candidates discuss town issues at live forum

Huie retires from Bel Canto committee after 13 years

On September 29, Stell Huie announced his retirement as the Chair of the Bel Canto Committee. Huie is best known for being a lawyer for MARTA, from the time it was just an idea until the trains were running.

Bob Jones Tourney raises $250K for HCHF

The 39th Bob Jones Invitational Golf Tournament was held Aug. 5-7,  at Highlands Country Club. The tournament is named after the legendary Bobby Jones and features Walker Cup players from the United States, Great Britain, and Ireland.

Long Drive World Champ

After hitting a 343-yard drive, Highlands School alumnus Kyle Gabbard is the new Professional Long Drivers Association Amateur World Champion. 16 of the best amateur long drivers traveled to Mesquite, Nev., to compete in the World Championships.
