Magnolia Republic to host Grand Opening

Though Magnolia Republic has been open since the Fourth of July, the new restaurant will hold its Grand Opening this weekend for the public. The tapas and wine bar was opened by David Cunningham after years of planning. “We have always wanted to do something,” Cunningham said.

HBF creates lecture series in honor of former director

Thanks to an anonymous donor, the Highlands Biological Foundation has created a new lecture series in honor of former director Sonya Carpenter. “Sonya was our director for many years and really shaped the biological foundation into what it is today,” HBF director Charlotte Muir said.

Highlands, Cashiers Christmas Parades to be on same day

In the spirit of community, the Cashiers Christmas Parade and the Highlands Chamber of Commerce Christmas Parade will be held on the same day. Highlands’ parade will begin at 10:30 a.m., and Cashiers parade will start at 3 p.m., both on Saturday, Dec. 4.
The event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 25, from 11:30 a.m., to 1:30 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church of Highlands, 471 Main Street.

2021 Empty Bowls Fundraiser set for this weekend

The Highlands Food Pantry’s largest fundraising event, Empty Bowls, is scheduled for this weekend. Food Pantry director Bonnie Dayton said that money from the event is used to supply the pantry for the year.

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month

National Hispanic Heritage Month is a period from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 for recognizing the contributions and influence of Hispanic Americans to the history, culture and achievements of the United States. In Highlands one group works daily with the Hispanic community on the Plateau.

New “Snow Fest” coming to Highlands

The Highlands Area Chamber of Commerce plans on bringing a new festival to the town this winter that will bring in more snow. Last Thursday, the Highlands Town Board of Commissioners conditionally approved for the chamber to go ahead and start planning for the new Snow Fest.

Fly Fishing Festival set for this weekend

The Three River Fly Fishing Festival and Tournament is celebrating its 10th Anniversary September 23-25 in Highlands. The group anticipates this event to raise more funds than ever before for the Town of Highlands Scholarship Fund - approaching $100,000 in total over the years.
