Town gets update on fiber optic cable construction project

The Town of Highlands is one step closer to broadband internet.
Information Technology director Matt Shuler gave an update on the town’s construction of fiber optic cables that will enable broadband internet in the town.
“We are getting very close to the end,” Shuler said.

Filing for the 2021 municipal elections in Highlands is now closed with several candidates qualifying to run for election.
As of Friday, incumbent mayor Patrick Taylor will face current commissioner Marc Hehn.

After a year of planning, construction on the new Highlands Performing Arts Center will begin in the next week.
“Basically, we had to scrap our design and start over with a new company,” PAC Executive director Mary Adair Trumbly said.
