MCPH reports fourth COVID-19 death

A fourth person has died from complications associated with COVID-19 in Macon County. According to Macon County Public Health officials, the patient died on Monday. The patient was over the age of 65 and had an underlying health condition at the time of their death.

Highlands PAC cancels fall concert series

The Highlands Performing Arts center has canceled its series of September concerts due to restrictions from the COVID-19 coronavirus. The notice on its website stated the situation succinctly and bluntly with little fanfare other than the marquee scroll across the center of the screen.

It may have come two months later than expected, but the Highlands School class of 2020 finally got their chance to walk across the stage and receive their diplomas on Saturday morning. The outdoor graduation ceremony featured all of the traditional activities, albeit from a safe social distance.

Macon County Public Health has identified another cluster of COVID-19 cases, this time among the staff and residents of Drake Cottage in Franklin. MCPH officials confirmed that four individuals have tested positive for the virus as of Monday.

Schools to reopen on Aug. 17

The plan to reopen schools in Macon County, including Highlands School, came into focus on July 30 when the Macon County Board of Education solidified its plan to start the school year on Aug. 17 under the state’s “Plan B.” For Highlands, that means a complex schedule early in the school year.
