High Octane event changes gears due to restrictions

The finale of this weekend’s Mountain Motoring event has had to undergo a format change due to COVID-19 restrictions, according to event organizer Steve Ham.  According to Ham, after meeting with Highlands officials about the “High Octane in the Park” event, in regard to N.C.

For the first time in what seems like a very long time, Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park was buzzing with people Saturday and Sunday. The park had been nearly silent since February do to the COVID-19 pandemic that shuttered dozens of events and made social distancing part of the vernacular.

One of Highlands’ biggest events will not take place in 2020. Organizers of the Highlands Food and Wine Festival informed the town board of commissioners on Thursday night that the event scheduled for Nov. 12-14 has been cancelled due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
