Highlander boys basketball takes down Summit

Fresh off a two-week Christmas break, the Summit Bears boys basketball team fell to the Highlanders, 64-27, at home on Tuesday night. The Highlanders outscored the Bears 10-3 during the first quarter.
As of Jan. 2, the website had been updated to say the ski resort’s Frozen Falls Tube Park has a target opening date of Jan. 7. The ski area opening date is pending.

Sapphire Valley Ski Resort delays season

The ski season at Sapphire Valley has been temporarily postponed until colder weather sets in across the plateau. Warmer weather does not lead to good snow formation, and the weather ideally needs to be below freezing for this to occur. The season was set to start on Saturday, Dec.

CDC reduces quarantine guidelines

The Centers for Disease Control are now recommending that people who test positive for COVID-19 quarantine for five days, a reduction from their previous 10-day guideline. The CDC update was issued on Dec. 27.
The exponential  rise in positive COVID cases locally (out of an abundance of caution) has let  to the  postponement of the beginning of this class until next Wednesday, January 12.

Village Green to host art classes in Cashiers

A series of art classes is coming to The Village Green in collaboration with the Cashiers School of the Arts, starting today at 4 p.m. The series contains seven weeks with 90-minute-long classes each Wednesday from 4-5:30 p.m.

Preserving the past, looking to the future

Since November 2020, The Episcopal Church of the Incarnation has been hard at work expanding its walls to accommodate parishioners and beautify the sanctuary. Now in 2022, Rev. Bentley Manning said the end is in sight and parishioners are excited to hold services in the new church.

Old Edwards has record year in 2021

According to Old Edwards Inn president Richard Delany, the resort had its best year ever in 2021. “It has been a very wacky 18 plus months for us,” Delany said. “We closed down in March 2020 for about six weeks then reopened in May 2020. Since then, it has been record months ever since.

First snow of 2022

The first snow of 2022 came on Monday to Highlands and is still stuck to the ground all over the Plateau. Highlands recorded 2.5 inches inches of snow on Monday and Cashiers recorded three inches of snow.

HHS sweeps battle with Blue Ridge

It was a battle of the plateau on Dec. 14, as the Blue Ridge Bobcats varsity basketball teams hosted Highlands School Highlanders. Highlands prevailed in the girls game 64-25 and the Highlander boys claimed a 63-35 win.

End in sight for Macon-Jackson county line dispute

The Jackson County Board of Commissioners has taken the final steps in the process of redrawing its border with Macon County. At its Dec. 7 regular meeting the board unanimously passed R21-34 a joint resolution between the two counties establishing the new county line.
