Scaly Mountain coat drive brings warmth to those in need

A group of concerned Scaly Mountain residents have come together to help those in need fend off the winter’s cold, spearheading a winter coat drive to provide winter coats for the needy.

Coalition for Invasive Plant Management to host workshop

The Coalition for Invasive Plant Management will provide a half-day workshop for landscapers, nursery trade personnel and herbicide applicators at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 29 at the Highlands Community Building next to the baseball field.  Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Cold temps shift council's focus to home heating aid

The Highlands Emergency Council wrapped what Mary Ann Cresswell, grants, projects and programs coordinator, called a very good holiday season in 2019, but now it’s time to move forward with 2020. “The weather was nice this year,” she said.

Looking forward, giving back

For Highlands resident Ray Such, times could be better, but he’s not complaining.  Recently unemployed, Such, 56, persevered through the holidays by focusing his attention and efforts not on his own plight in life, but instead on helping others through their difficult times.
