One of the fastest growing recreation activities in America may soon have a permanent home in Highlands. Pickleball is riding a wave of momentum, and according to local players, it’s time the sport has dedicated courts at the Highlands Rec Center.

High Octane event changes gears due to restrictions

The finale of this weekend’s Mountain Motoring event has had to undergo a format change due to COVID-19 restrictions, according to event organizer Steve Ham.  According to Ham, after meeting with Highlands officials about the “High Octane in the Park” event, in regard to N.C.

For the first time in what seems like a very long time, Kelsey-Hutchinson Founders Park was buzzing with people Saturday and Sunday. The park had been nearly silent since February do to the COVID-19 pandemic that shuttered dozens of events and made social distancing part of the vernacular.
