Hurricanes shine at Clemson meet

Otto man dies in fire

A house fire on Monday claimed the life of an Otto man. The victim was identified on Wednesday as Dean D. Ellis, 66. The cause of death was smoke inhalation, according to the Macon County medical examiner. Otto Fire and Rescue responded to a structure fire on American Way Drive at about 4 p.m.

Fire destroys home off Salt Rock Road

GLENVILLE -- A southern Jackson County couple in their 80s are unsure where they’ll live after an Oct. 26 fire destroyed their hilltop home at 357 Friendship Lane, which is off Salt Rock Road.

2 arrested, charged in animal neglect case

The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office has arrested two people in connection to a recent animal neglect call and charged with misdemeanor cruelty to animals.  Volunteers and employees from Mitchell County Animal Rescue and officers from the Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office responded Friday, Oct.

Panthers aim to end year with best game

Friday marks the final football game of the season for Franklin, which means it’s the last chance to play a complete game.  The Panthers (1-9, 1-3 Mountain Six Conference) will finish an unusual season at Smoky Mountain (7-3, 3-1 MSC).
