Hudson Library reopens to public

All Fontana Regional Library locations in Macon, Jackson, and Swain Counties are now open for walk-in browsing without an appointment.  Because of high demand and limited capacity, some special sections may still require a reservation, such as Hudson’s Children’s Room and study room.

Carmichael honored by Clemson University

Vice President of Mountain Findings Marvin G. Carmichael will receive the Clemson Alumni Association’s highest honor, the Distinguished Service Award. Carmichael, a Dillon, S.C., native, earned two degrees from Clemson University in 1971 and 1976 respectively.

The exterior grounds of the Highlands Playhouse were given a much needed freshening up by a seven-person grounds crew on loan from Highlands Falls Country Club.

Visitors to the Nantahala, Pisgah and Croatan National Forests will have a convenient new way to pay day-use fees at nine recreation areas. Visitors also have the option to purchase annual passes for most of these areas.

Macon County Public Health officials have identified a rabies positive skunk.  The skunk was turned over to Macon County Animal Services after it was killed following an interaction with a citizen’s dog.

Land Trust conserves 28 acres

Twenty-eight acres of greenspace that boarders the entrance to Highlands from Cashiers have been permanently conserved by Highlands-Cashiers Land Trust.  The tract lies along the south side of US 64 extending from Sherwood Forest Road nearly to Poplar Road, a distance of a mile.
