A furious comeback effort fell just short as Highlands’ varsity boys basketball team fell to visiting Hiwassee Dam 52-46 on Friday night.
The Little Smoky Mountain Conference clash was tight early on as Highlands used a patient half court offense to set up several buckets in the paint.

Highlands and Blue Ridge set the table for the 2019-20 rivalry between the two schools with a middle school doubleheader Wednesday in Glenville.
The Highlands girls held off a Lady Bobcat 8-0 run in the fourth quarter to win 33-26 and improve to 3-0 on the young season.

The Highlands boys basketball team stumbled coming out of the gate in its season opener to Tallulah Falls, losing 69-25 on Monday.
The Highlanders are young and inexperienced according to coach Brett Lamb who lost nine seniors off last year’s team to graduation.
