The Highlands Lady Highlanders placed three players in double figures and canned 17-18 shots from the foul line to ride a second half comeback and defeat Swain County 46-39 in basketball action Wednesday night.

Highlander boys knock off Murphy

    After watching a pair of second half comebacks fall just short, Highlands boys basketball coach Brett Lamb was excited to see the Highlanders finish the job on Friday night against Murphy.

Highlands splits with Hiwassee Dam

A furious comeback effort fell just short as Highlands’ varsity boys basketball team fell to visiting Hiwassee Dam 52-46 on Friday night. The Little Smoky Mountain Conference clash was tight early on as Highlands used a patient half court offense to set up several buckets in the paint.

Highlanders split with Blue Ridge

Highlands and Blue Ridge set the table for the 2019-20 rivalry between the two schools with a middle school doubleheader Wednesday  in Glenville. The Highlands girls held off a Lady Bobcat 8-0 run in the fourth quarter to win 33-26 and improve to 3-0 on the young season.

Highlands boys handed 69-25 defeat by Tallulah Falls

The Highlands boys basketball team stumbled coming out of the gate in its season opener to Tallulah Falls, losing 69-25 on Monday. The Highlanders are young and inexperienced according to coach Brett Lamb who lost nine seniors off last year’s team to graduation.

HHS soccer falls to Hayesville 4-1

It was a lousy night for soccer, plain and simple. Playing on a wet field in mud, the Highlands boys soccer team fell to visiting Hayesville 4-1 in its home finale, miring the Highlanders in the muck of those in the Smoky Mountain Conference hoping for a break to get invited to the N.C.

Highlands volleyball teams win conference titles

The Highlands volleyball teams made it a clean sweep Tuesday night at the Little Smoky Mountain Conference tournament at Blue Ridge Early College, winning both the varsity and JV championships.
Highlander freshman Anna Stiehler carded a 91 in tough weather conditions at the NCHSAA Class 1A/2A regional golf tournament, good enough for ninth place and a ticket to the state tournament in Pinehurst on Oct. 28.

Stiehler advances to NCHSAA state golf championship

Anna Stiehler is no stranger to big time golf moments. She won the Tri-State Conference golf title in 2018 and has been playing competitively since the fourth grade. But this was a little different stage. Call it Stiehler’s coming out party.
