Highlanders prep for NCHSAA regionals

On Saturday the Highlands Varsity Swim Teams finished their 2024-25 regular season. Swimming in a meet with 19 schools, all of them bigger than Highlands, the boys team of Finneaus Garner, Aniah McKim, Jack Sumner and Jesus Mendoza-Tentle finished third. The boys finished 25-10-0 for the season.

Highlands splits pair of basketball games

The Highlands varsity basketball teams got in one win and won loss against the visiting Andrews Wildcats on Wednesday night. The Lady Highlanders bested the Lady Wildcats in a strong 48-41 win, but then the Highlanders were defeated 71-28 by the Wildcats later on in boys game.

Hurricanes set records at Candy Cane Invitational

On Saturday, Dec. 14, the Highlands varsity swim team traveled to Murphy for the 6th Annual Candy Cane Invitational.  Seven teams were invited.    The Highlands boys team finished third against much larger teams and schools from NC and GA.    The Highlanders were led by Jr.

Hayesville wins pair of road games at Highlands

The Hayesville Yellow Jackets came to town on Tuesday night and managed to defeat the Highlands boys and girls varsity basketball teams on their own court.

Highlanders open basketball season with a win

Both the Highlanders and Lady Highlanders basketball teams had a good opening night, as they soundly defeated the visitors from Rosman. The Lady Highlanders beat the Rosman Lady Tigers 50-17, while the boys beat the Tigers 54-41.

A new season of basketball is starting for Blue Ridge Early College, and for coach Tim Mayse, who leads the girls’ team at the school, the future is looking bright and ambitious.

HHS prepping for hoops season

The Lady Highlanders varsity basketball team had several close losses last season, which coach Brett Lamb thinks they can turn into wins this season. “Over half our losses came in the single digits last year,” he said. “We lost overtime to Hayesville twice.

Highlands drops Tri-County 4-0

The Highlands varsity soccer team blanked the Tri-County Early College Jaguars 4-0 at a home game Monday evening. The game was fast and physical, with the players rushing all over the field, evenly matched and both unable to get in a goal early. The score remained even at 0-0 for much of the half.
