Highlands falls to Andrews on the hardwood

A fast start was stymied by a slow second quarter as Highlands dropped a 43-26 decision to Andrews in girls’ basketball on Tuesday night. Hunter Conner got the Lady Highlanders on the board first with an early free throw and the teams proceeded to trade baskets throughout a tight first quarter.

Basketball splits with Rosman

A slow start doomed Highlands in a non-conference basketball loss on Friday night. Rosman took over midway through the first quarter and cruised to a 52-17 victory.
Highlands used a total team effort to beat Nantahala 3-0 on Thursday night. The Lady Highlanders are waiting to see if they make the NCHSAA 1-A State Playoffs. The brackets will be released today.

HHS volleyball cruises past Nantahala

Nantahala varsity volleyball visited Highlands last week, leaving with a crushing loss at the hands of the Lady Highlanders. Highlands came out strong and kept that energy throughout the game, although the third period was closer than the first two.

Soccer sneaks by Blue Ridge

The six-game winning streak maintained by the Blue Ridge Bobcats boys soccer team was snapped by Highlands in a tough mid-season loss at home. The Highlanders defeated the Bobcats, 2-1, dropping the Bobcats to 6-1 in the Smoky Mountain 1A conference and 6-4-1 overall.

Highlands Hurricanes shine in three team meet

On Saturday, the Highlands Hurricanes Swim Team hosted the North Georgia Rapids and the Smoky Mountain Aquatics Club.  The Hurricanes won 438 to 197 to 111.     The Hurricanes were led by Alyse Remery and Bella Batista each who scored 26 points.

Highlands volleyball falls to league rival Murphy

Highlands varsity volleyball was served a quick 3-0 loss Thursday, Sept. 14 in a home game against Murphy. Highlands had a decent start to the game before momentum tapered off. The first set stayed fairly close with Highlands taking a 25-17 loss.

Highlands School has been conditioning its athletes over the summer in hopes of building on a strong foundation for the upcoming athletic year. Highlands offers high school boys and girls golf, volleyball, boys soccer, swim, boys and girls basketball, and boys and girls soccer.

On Thursday, 44 Highlands Hurricanes Swim Team hosted Cherokee County Aquatics Club for a home meet. The Hurricanes won 743 - 307. The Hurricanes were led by Anton Halldin who won three events and finished second in another. Emilina Hernandez and Jr.

Hurricanes swamp two opponents

The Highlands Hurricanes traveled to Sylva with 39 swimmers to swim against the Jackson County Swim Team and the Smoky Mountain Aquatics Club. Highlands won 508, 224, 211. The Hurricanes were led by a quartet of Jr.  Olympians – Chase Kenter, Jack Sumner, and twins Dasha and Ben Halldin.

Hurricanes show out at first meet

On Thursday, June 8, 32 members of the Highlands Hurricanes swim team traveled to Waynesville for a tri-meet with the Smoky Mountain Aquatics Club and the Cherokee County Aquatics Club. The Hurricanes won big – Highlands 527, SMAC 197, CCAC 151.
