Hurricanes upset FAST swimmers in summer meet

On Thursday, June 6, 39 members of the Highlands Hurricanes Swim Team traveled to Franklin to swim against FAST (Franklin Amateur Swim Team). The boys team upset FAST 358-308 and the girls swam well. The Hurricanes were led by Emilina Hernández, Bella Batista, and Jr.

Highlands ends soccer season with win, loss, and draw

Amid several games postponed due to bad weather, the Lady Highlanders soccer game tied 1-1 against the Murphy Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday, May 7. One day later Wednesday, May 8, they were able to blank the Tri County Early College Lady Jaguars 6-0.

Highlands sending four track athletes to Regionals

With only 10 students on their team, the Highlands School track team isn’t big enough to compete the way other 1A schools can, but four students qualified for the NCHSAA 1A West Regionals this weekend.

The Lady Highlanders soccer team blanked the Cherokee Lady Braves 2-0 in a rowdy match Monday evening, April 29. The teams played hard and the game was full of players crowding the ball trying to get it away from their opponents.

Blue Ridge falls on senior night

The Blue Ridge Bobcats took a 1-0 loss in Monday’s senior night game against Hayesville. Both teams showed strong defense throughout the first half. Neither team scored during the first 40 minutes, but Hayesville finally connected with 19 minutes left in the second half.

Highlands soccer defeats Summit

A rematch between the Lady Highlanders soccer team and the Summit Charter Lady Bears on Thursday night, April 18, netted a 2-1 win for the Lady Highlanders – a triumph after their 3-1 loss in March. The entire field was in play and the teams were closely matched.

Highlands cruises past Summit in double header

With the stretch run of the basketball season getting underway as the calendar turns to February, the Highlands varsity basketball teams got the rare chance to take a breath and suit up for a non-conference game on Thursday night.

Highlands swim team shines in Waynesville

On Wednesday , Nov. 29 the 1A Highlands boys and girls varsity swim teams traveled to Waynesville to swim against 3A Pisgah, 3A Tuscola and the Trailblazers. The boys not only won, they more than doubled the score of all of the other teams, including the much larger 3A schools.

Basketball falls on Homecoming

Highlands found itself trading punches with one of the better girls’ basketball teams in the area on Friday night. The Highlanders just couldn’t quite get shots to drop at critical moments in the second half of a 45-34 loss to West Oak (South Carolina) as part of “Homecoming Weekend.
