Lamb honored for athletic department achievements

Highlands School athletic director and basketball coach Brett Lamb recently brought home the Region 8 Charlie Adams DSA Award for 2024. Lamb, a 1987 graduate of Highlands High School, has spent his career working with young athletes and advancing sports education.

Soccer takes down Cherokee

The Highlanders boys varsity soccer team triumphed with a 9-1 win over the Cherokee Braves at home on Monday. It came after a loss to the Franklin Panthers on Thursday, Sept. 12 and a win over the Hayesville Yellow Jackets on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Highlanders get first soccer win over Wildcats

The Highlanders soccer team’s first conference game of the season on Monday evening, Sept. 9, was a success, as the Highlanders won 7-1 over the Andrews Wildcats. It was the Highlanders’ first win this season as well, which Coach Caleb Brown said was “really important” after a string of losses.

Blue Ridge falls to Franklin

It took Franklin a few minutes to get its offense acclimated to the friendly confines of Blue Ridge Early College’s pitch on Thursday afternoon, but once the Panthers found their footing they proved hard to contain in a 5-1 win.

Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School’s football team will play on ESPN at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 25 as they take on Baylor School (TN) in Chattanooga. Local players from Highlands and Cashiers include Wesley Cox, Owen Madden, and James Neil.

Lady Highlanders fall to rival Bulldogs

The Lady Highlanders volleyball team lost 3-1 against the Murphy Lady Bulldogs at their home game on Monday evening, Aug. 19. It came after a 3-0 loss against the Rosman Lady Tigers on Thursday, Aug. 15 and a 3-1 win over the Andrews Lady Wildcats on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Highlands soccer drops opener to Franklin

The regular season is underway for Highlands men’s soccer. On the first official day of the regular season Aug. 12, the Highlanders traveled to Franklin for a season-opening match against their cross-county rivals.

Hurricanes win All Star meet

On Saturday, July 20, 31 Highlands Hurricanes traveled to Sylva to compete in the Mountain Swim League All Star meet. A swimmer had to post a qualifying time to be eligible to swim in the meet. The Hurricanes defeated Franklin Amateur Swim Team 338-247.

Highlands Hurricanes bring home another league win

The Highlands Hurricanes Swim Team recently traveled to Murphy to compete with Cherokee County Aquatics Club and Jackson County Swim Team. The Hurricanes won 365 to 297 JCST to 248 CCAC. The Hurricanes were led by first time Jr. Olympic Qualifier Bella Batista and Jr.

On Thursday, June 27, the Highlands Hurricanes hosted Cherokee County Aquatics Club from Murphy and Jackson County Swim Team from Sylva. The Hurricanes won 666 to JCST’s 273 and CCAC’s 167. All of the Highlands Hurricanes scored. The Hurricanes were led by Jr.
